International Purchasers

The Australian Government's foreign investment policy encourages investment in Australia, including investment in residential real estate. To ensure that this investment is consistent with the needs of Australian society Foreign Investment Review Board approval is required for the purchase of property in Australia by people (or companies) not ordinarily resident in Australia.

Foreign nationals will usually be granted approval to purchase apartments and houses off the plan, under construction or newly completed (but never occupied), on condition that no more than half of the apartments in any one development are sold to foreign investors.

In practice, when purchasing an apartment at Trio, at exchange purchasers who have indicated they are foreign nationals will be issued a FIRB form to complete (nominating their nationality), together with the contract for sale. Frasers Property has received FIRB approval for Trio, limited to 50% of all sales, so there is no further action required by the purchaser.
